3 Steps: Creating a Mood Board

Updated: Feb 20, 2019

We create and use mood boards to convey an overall message of tone, feeling, and inspiration - whether it be for interior design, weddings, an ad campaign, clothing collection, and more.

As designers, it’s our job to communicate clearly the overall design inspiration, as well as, helping our clients envision their newly designed home.

So, we thought we’d give you a quick little three step process:

1. GET TO KNOW:

The first and most important step is asking yourself a series of questions that will help you in understanding the direction of design you are trying to move towards.

What colors do you love?

Who or what inspires you on a daily basis?

What mood do you want to portray?

What's the overall feeling you want when stepping into the space?

2. COLLECT YOUR MATERIAL:

Of course, collecting your material is another essential! Make sure that the photos, typography, textiles, and music is of high quality. There’s nothing worse than using blurry photos and text - instant kill to all of your hard work!

3. DEFINE YOUR STYLE:

Your next step would be to define your aesthetic - Feminine or masculine? Rustic or preppy? Urban or boho? This is the key to making sure that when you are presenting the mood board, the vision comes across clear and with confidence.
